While Israelis are enjoying
water leisurely with backyard pools and unfettered access to clean drinking
water, the Palestinians, which are only separated from them by walls and
checkpoints, are in the midst of a worsening water crisis, facing days when the
weather warms up and the wells dry out or water simply does not come out of
their taps.
This clearly demonstrates the
unequal distribution of water, priority given to Israeli citizens who use water
for leisurely activities while the occupied Palestinian territory is subjected
to even more diseases this time due to the scarcity of unclean water unfit for
human consumption. 80% of water mountain aquifers in the north are taken by
Israel while Palestine is left to share only about 20%. Furthermore, they are prohibited
from using water from the Jordan River, despite the fact that it runs directly
through one of the Palestinian territories.
